Beauty Products I Wouldn’t Buy Again

Beauty Products I Wouldn't Buy Again

I’ve seen beauty bloggers post their “empties,” or products they loved so much they finished them entirely. Since I never finish anything, as I have like a million beauty products, I decided instead I’d post the products I hardly emptied at all. In other words, these are the products I wouldn’t purchase again, I didn’t like, and actually threw in the trash after cleaning out my makeup arsenal.

Baked Bronzer by Ulta

This bronzer was one of the freebies I received when I first started working at Ulta, and I honestly wasn’t impressed. The powder felt plasticky, like my brush couldn’t pick any of it up. I am usually a huge fan of Ulta brand products, but this one fell short.

Stay Matte Foundation & Primer by Rimmel

Awhile ago, I won a giveaway of Rimmel products, and both of these were included. As someone who is extremely T-zone oily (ugh) I thought it would be a great addition to my beauty routine. I like the texture of the foundation. It’s like a mousse, which I like more than a liquid….or I thought I would. I gave the combo of foundation and primer a few tries, but I had a couple of problems with them: 1. The foundation was so heavy. It felt like plastering my face with butter or something. 2. The primer didn’t hold. I expect a lot out of my primer, especially since I’m so oily, but this primer didn’t deliver. I felt like the thick, butter-like foundation was sliding off of my face by midday. Too much coverage, too little sticking power.

ColorStay Ultimate Suede lipstick by Revlon

First of all, this color is awful on me. I thought that since coral looks good on me in clothing, it would look good on my face, but I was dead wrong. Even that aside, this lipstick did not make me happy. After a couple of hours, even without eating/drinking, the lipstick wore off on the center of my lips, leaving a gooey, coral crustiness on the outside edges of my lips. Eew. I know that “long wear” lip color has to stick somehow, but it didn’t actually stay. It only stayed enough to look like I ate something brightly colored and got it stuck all over my lips. Not cute.

PrimeTime Foundation Primer in Original by BareMinerals

Primetime Foundation Primer by BareMinerals
Let me start by saying that I love, love, love BareMinerals. I wear the foundation and am a huge fan. The only reason why this primer made it on my “do not want” list is that it doesn’t hold up to anyone with oily skin. I’ve tried the “Oil Control” PrimeTime and it’s not, in my opinion, all that much better. I guess the original might be made to give you a “dewy glow” but on me, it just looks super shiny. Nope. Not a fan.

Exaggerate Undercover Shadow Primer by Rimmel

This was another giveaway item. I am in a committed relationship with Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion, but I thought I’d give it a try. I’m certainly not all about brand names. I’d rather buy something drugstore if it can do the same thing as a higher end item. This, unfortunately, did not. While Urban Decay’s holds my shadow on overnight, this creased after just a few hours. I guess it would be fine if you’re just using it for a few hours, but it won’t hold up for a full day of wear. The texture was also weird…it was almost watery. Maybe that was part of its problem.

Natural Bronzer by Rimmel

Yep, another giveaway item. I feel about this bronzer about the same that I felt about the Ulta bronzer. It didn’t do anything for me. It was also pretty orange, at least on me. I love Rimmel products overall (I plan on blogging about my favorites later) but the few I tried here were nothing special to me.

What beauty products were you less than impressed with? Have you tried any of these? Follow me on Twitter for short bursts of sass. 🙂

Xoxo, Taylor

  1. I feel like I never really like how bronzers look on me, maybe I just can’t find a good one for my skin tone or something! I haven’t tried any of these products though, so I guess that’s good for me!
